Currum Downs Dental Patient

Do you experience consistent bad breath, sensitivity to hot and cold, and the big one -bleeding while brushing or flossing?

Then you may be experiencing symptoms of gum disease.

Gum Disease

If left untreated, gum disease will most definitely get worse and cause your gums to recede and pull away from your tooth — not only is this not a pretty look, this is also the reason you can’t have ice cream because it’s just TOO SENSITIVE!
Over time, gum disease could also cause your tooth to become loose, thus seeking treatment before it gets to this stage is a must!

Stages Of Gum Disease

  • Gingivitis: This is the earliest stage of Gum Disease. Gingivitis is caused by the build up of calculus on teeth and causes inflamation to the gums if not removed.

  • Periodontitis: This is an adavanced form of gingivitis, This occurs when the inflamation caused by the build up of calculus causes the gums to seperate from the base of the tooth creating small pockets between the gum and tooth. This can also cause early to moderate bone loss. However, proper dental treatment and improved home care can usually prevent any further damange.

  • Advanced Periodontitis: This is the final stage of Gum Disease. It is characterised by the presence of deep pockets between teeth and gums. Servere bone loss is also a risk factor. The weakening of the fibres and bone supporting your teeth can cause teeth to shift or loosen. If treatment is ineffective, teeth may need to be removed by your dentist.
